Meet Dr Luisa Krein

Luisa is an accredited speech pathologist specialising in the area of dementia and other neurodegenerative conditions. She has over 10 years of experience in rehabilitation, aged care and in the disability sector. She speaks English and German and can provide therapy in both languages.

Luisa completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in speech pathology at the University of Munich, Germany. She is passionate about learning and research and completed her PhD in Communication and Dementia at the University of Sydney in 2020. She is still actively involved in research both at the Uniting War Memorial Hospital (Waverley, NSW) and at the University of Sydney. You can find a list of publications here.

Stemming from personal experience, Luisa has a great interest in cognitive communication disorders. She is passionate about providing support, care and education to people living with cognitive impairment and their closest family and friends.

“It was only after my grandparents had passed away from Alzheimer’s disease that I learned about all the ways in which I could have supported them and maintained a closer connection. I cannot turn back time but I want to pass on what I have learned to enable more families to stay connected, even in the face of dementia.”

In her free time, Luisa loves spending time with family and friends, swimming in the sparkling ocean or exploring the great outdoors on foot, bike or horse back.
